Why are we serving here?

One of the rewarding ways in which ForColumbia serves its city is by bringing Christians together to serve other churches that are actively working every day in the lives of people in Columbia. Calvary Baptist Church uses its property on Worley Street in many ways for the benefit of our community, including running a food pantry, Shepherd’s Basket, for over 20 years. This food pantry serves low-income individuals in our community, entirely through volunteers, and yet struggles to keep up with cleaning and maintenance of their space. We want to offer to make light work with many hands for this faithful congregation. This is why we think your day will be well spent serving at Shepherd’s Basket.

What can I expect?

ForColumbia volunteers will be working inside at this project:

  • clearing out and cleaning a pantry area used to store food for Shepherd’s Basket food pantry;
  • painting the shelving in the pantry area;
  • deep cleaning several refrigerators and freezers.

    Don't forget to wear your T-shirt!
    Don’t forget to wear your T-shirt!

What should I bring?

  • ForColumbia will provide all painting and cleaning supplies.
  • Volunteers should also wear clothing appropriate for painting.
  • Be sure to wear your #ForColumbia2018 T-shirt!

Can I serve here with my children?

No, this project involves working in a small space and is not ideal for children to serve alongside their parents.
