Why are we serving here?

One of the ways ForColumbia strives to love and serve our neighbors is by serving those non-profit organizations who are actively working every day in the lives of people in Columbia. King’s Kids is one of the small non-profits here in Columbia that is making a big impact in the lives of children. King’s Kids strives to build relationships in every area of a child’s life, whether it’s meeting family needs, providing additional support and/or collaborating with outside agencies to provide additional services. King’s Kids helps kids to develop self-concept, self-identity, and self-esteem; respect themselves as well as others; become strong critical thinkers and problem solvers, and form a strong spiritual, social, intellectual, and moral foundation. This is why we think your day will be well spent serving at King’s Kids.

What can I expect?

ForColumbia volunteers will be working both inside and outside on a variety of projects, including:

  • installing counter tops to create a large space for kids to use computers;
  • providing electrical outlets for this same area;
  • cleaning up the yard outside and potentially planting flowers;
  • other projects as identified.

    Don't forget to wear your T-shirt!

What should I bring?

  • Volunteers should bring work gloves, and be prepared to work outside.
  • Skilled volunteers are encouraged to bring any tools they think would be helpful to this project.
  • If sunny, we encourage you to consider bringing sunscreen and/or a hat in case you are assigned to the outdoor work.
  • We encourage all volunteers to wear close-toed shoes.
  • Be sure to wear your #ForColumbia2019 T-shirt!

Can I serve here with my children?

This is primarily a high-skill project, and as such may not be the best serving site for children younger than teenagers.
