Why are we serving here?

ForColumbia’s mission – to bring Christians together to love and serve our neighbors – puts us in touch with those in Columbia who are more marginalized; the chronically poor, the elderly, single-parent households, those with disabilities. This year, we are serving alongside one local church that regularly reaches out to those in their neighborhood, and partnering with them to host this gathering. When we give our time for the benefit of others, we send the message that they are valuable.

What can I expect?

ForColumbia volunteers will be working outside:

  • hosting a Planting Day for area residents;
  • offering free laundry services for neighbors at the adjoining Sunrise Coin Laundry;
  • providing lunch for volunteers in the area and a neighborhood BBQ to welcome local residents;
  • facilitating other kids’ activities.

What should I bring?

Most food and supplies will be provided by Tabernacle of Grace Ministry and ForColumbia. However:

  • Volunteers assisting with the BBQ are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share.
  • We encourage all volunteers to wear close-toed shoes.
  • Be prepared for a sunny day by bringing sunscreen and/or a hat.
  • Be sure to wear your #ForColumbia2020 T-shirt!

Can I serve here with my children?

Yes, this is a family-friendly serving location!
