Why are we serving here?

One of the ways ForColumbia strives to love and serve our city is by giving our time and energy to beautify community areas that are available to everyone to enjoy. This year we are excited to partner with The Loop CID to create a new public space in our community for all of us to enjoy, a pop-up park along the Business Loop. This is as close to a good old-fashioned barn-raising as you may see anytime soon. Volunteers will arrive at a newly asphalted but otherwise undeveloped lot just to the east of Dave Griggs Flooring America, and by the end of the day will leave a park-like space complete with landscaping, seating, fencing and more.

What can I expect?

ForColumbia volunteers will be working at this location to:

  • assemble picnic tables;
  • paint large storage containers to hold additional seating and other community items;
  • plant multiple large landscaping containers;
  • paint creative sidewalk graphics along street-facing side of park;
  • other projects as identified, including some kid-friendly projects that are currently in the works.
Don't forget to wear your T-shirt!
Don’t forget to wear your T-shirt!

What should I bring?

  • The Loop CID will provide all plants, paint and other materials.
  • Volunteers should bring work gloves and dress appropriately for possible painting.
  • Come prepared to work outside; if sunny, we encourage you to consider bringing sunscreen and/or a hat.
  • We encourage all volunteers to wear close-toed shoes.
  • Be sure to wear your #ForColumbia2019 T-shirt!

Can I serve here with my children?

This is a family-friendly site; we are actively planning some specific projects suitable for children to be able to contribute to this community space.
