Thanks to all of our volunteers!

Thanks to volunteers from five partnering churches, True North – a non-profit organization that serves women in crisis all year long – received a little love for itself, as ForColumbia continued its beautification project at this shelter’s site. What a joy to see Christians coming together from different congregations to serve, side by side, for the good of others in our community!

Why did we serve here?

One of the ways ForColumbia strives to love and serve our neighbors is by serving those non-profit organizations that are actively working every day in the lives of people in Columbia. True North is a women’s shelter providing safety, counseling and other services to women (and their children) coming out of domestic or sexual violence situations. While offering safe housing, advocacy and support, women of abuse are able to begin the process of healing and regaining control of their lives. When we give our time for the benefit of others, especially when they are going through a dark season in life, we send the message that they are valuable.

What got done?

Last year, ForColumbia volunteers began a revitalization project of True North’s bedrooms. This year, we continued the beautification of this shelter by:

  • painting ceilings throughout the main floor of the living space;
  • exchanging old ceiling lights out for more cost-effective, LED canned lighting;
  • revamping the closet space in the various bedrooms, and;
  • cleaning and freshening up the outside space, spreading mulch and pulling weeds.
